MacOS Application

Pullcast

Pullcast is a native macOS front end for a narrow yt-dlp workflow: paste a URL, choose a folder, download transcription-ready M4A audio or the video, and keep the file on your Mac.

Detail

pullcast

What it does

Pullcast makes one job calm: get a local file from a media URL. The user pastes one or more URLs, chooses an output folder, and downloads transcription-ready M4A audio, or the actual video when audio is not enough. The completed file is easy to reveal in Finder or hand to MacScription.

  • Paste URLs directly, even inside messy text, or import a text file of URLs
  • Audio M4A by default, with video as an explicit option
  • An output folder that Pullcast remembers
  • A status log and a list of completed files
  • A queue that continues past a failed URL

Product surface

Pullcast main window with source, status log, and completed files panels.
The whole workflow in one window: source, status log, and completed files.

Why it exists

yt-dlp is powerful but command-line first. Choosing the right format, setting an output path, reading progress, and finding the finished file all add friction for someone whose real goal is a transcript. Pullcast exposes only the small part of yt-dlp that job needs.

Separate from MacScription

Pullcast is its own product, kept apart from MacScription for distribution and review reasons. The two meet at a file: Pullcast produces it, MacScription reads it.

Not a media library

It is not a full yt-dlp interface and it does not manage an archive.

Status
