System / Electrolux Link

One permanent code for the whole life of an appliance

A global QR-code program that connected appliances to lifecycle content, onboarding, support, services, and appliance-specific ownership experiences.

I created the program vision, roadmap, governance, and investment case, connecting factories, identity data, content, apps, service, support, and lifecycle experiences.

Electrolux Link was the global QR program I developed while leading Ownership Experience. It turned a permanent appliance identifier into an entry point for onboarding, product-specific information, support, maintenance, service, repair, and future ownership experiences.

The product opportunity

QR codes already appeared across the group, but they had been introduced for different local purposes, with inconsistent placement, calls to action, data structures, and destinations. That made the customer experience harder to understand and limited the value of a code after its first use.

The program standardized on a permanent, appliance-specific identity with a destination that could change over the product lifecycle. The physical label could stay fixed while the service behind it remained current.

Service architecture

Physical layer

Permanent appliance identity

A durable product-specific code links the manufactured appliance to a stable identifier.

Data layer

Resolver and routing

The service interprets appliance identity, market, language, and context before selecting the destination.

Content layer

Ownership hub and CMS

Product teams can manage contextual content and service rules without replacing the physical code.

Experience layer

Contextual content or service

The customer reaches the right onboarding, support, maintenance, service, or lifecycle flow.

This architecture connected factories, unique-ID generation, printing and placement, IT infrastructure, content management, web and native app experiences, marketing, operations, governance, and product teams.

QR placement research
Research across business-area geographies examined placement, call-to-action language, visual treatment, and the interaction that followed a scan.

Different QR roles on one appliance

Not every QR code should do the same job. The program distinguished the durable appliance-identity layer from other codes that customers may encounter.

Setup

App onboarding and connectivity

A setup code can help download the correct app, pair the appliance, or hand off into a native connectivity flow.

Identity

Appliance identity and rating plate

A permanent model- or unit-specific identifier can support product information, ownership, service, and repair.

Compliance

Energy label

A regulatory or energy-information code serves a distinct disclosure purpose and should not be confused with ownership services.

Help

Manuals and support

Packaging, documentation, or support codes can route to focused guidance without becoming the permanent appliance identity.

From factory to ownership

The most difficult work sat between organizational boundaries. A useful customer experience depended on factory printing and quality, product identity data, routing infrastructure, local content, consent and analytics rules, service operations, and clear ownership after launch.

Ownership hub target vision
Target visions helped factory, IT, web, app, service, and business teams align around the intended lifecycle experience.

The roadmap deliberately treated the web as the universal entry point. A native app took over only when device connectivity, remote control, or another app-specific capability created clear value.

Then / now

Then: Electrolux Link model

A permanent appliance identity resolved through an updateable service layer, allowing one physical code to support different lifecycle needs over time.

Now: AEG device-specific services

Current AEG guidance describes appliance QR access to device-specific services, FAQs, use and feature guidance, maintenance information, and content that can remain updateable after the code is attached.

Current AEG behavior is strong continuity with the program model, but it is not presented as proof that every present implementation is a direct rollout of my project.

Contribution and outcomes

  • Developed the program vision, standard, roadmap, governance, and investment case.
  • Led research into placement, visual treatment, calls to action, and digital interactions.
  • Coordinated factory implementation, printing, unique-ID generation, IT, web/app, content, and service requirements.
  • Established a durable bridge between a manufactured product and a service layer that could change throughout the appliance lifecycle.
  • Contributed named-inventor work to the published patent family.
